Inspect the container before cargo enters it. Record the unit number, condition, and any defects with time-stamped photographs.
Check the exterior
Review doors, locking bars, hinges, roof, corner posts, side panels, and underframe. Look for major dents, holes, fresh repairs, or distortion that could affect safe transport.
Check the interior
The container should be clean, dry, odor-free, and free from residue, nails, and sharp edges. Close the doors and check for visible light through the roof or walls. Confirm the floor is sound and suitable for the cargo weight.
Plan secure loading
- Distribute weight across the floor.
- Keep heavy cargo low and balanced.
- Use blocking, bracing, lashing, or dunnage.
- Protect cargo from condensation where needed.
- Record the final seal number.
Stop loading if the unit is not suitable. Replacing a defective container is easier than managing damaged cargo at destination.
